Hi there guys,

Sorry for not posting anything last week. I didn’t mean for it to happen, but it passed unnoticed. I’ll try my best to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Today we talked a bit about passive voice and verb forms and tenses. I hope things are much clearer to you by now. In case you need some more help on that, you can always rely on a couple of good grammar books, you teacher, or even your dictionary.

We worked a bit on reading today, including an extra handout with a Paper 1 part 1 question. I hope you’ve got the hang of this kind of exercise by now and find it a bit easier. What about sharing your strategies on the comments? That might be a nice idea, and you may help a classmate in need. ;)

My recommendation would be for you to have a look at the texts first, then go through the options highlighting key words which might be useful to take your mind off any possible distractor. Then, go back to the text and try to find something similar to what you’d highlighted. Another possibility would be going through the sentences first. Which one do you prefer?

For part 3, I’d like you to try not looking at the options after reading the text. Have a look at the questions, but don’t read the options. By doing this, you’re left with a questions which needs an answer, and not 4 options which have been presented to you with lots of things included on purpose just to mislead you.

So, to sum up, we worked on a handout with a paper 1 part 1 question, coursebook p. 156 and 157, and passive voice and tense x aspect explanation.

Homework:

  • Coursebook: page 158 exercise 5
  • Exam Maximiser: page 99 (in case you haven’t done it yet)
  • Extra handouts: Paper 3 part 1

Hi there everybody,

First of all, I’d like to apologise for not having posted what we did nor the homework for our last lesson. I’ll try my best to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Anywho, today we’ve finally finished unit 1 and started unit 2.

We also read a text on education (Coursebook – pages 24 – 26). By the way, what is your take on the current Brazilian educational system? If you could do anything to make it better, what would you change and why? Share your views on the comments area. If you happen to know anything about other countries, please, contribute to the discussion.

As homework, there is some vocabulary and some grammar work to be done. Feel free to use the explanations present at the bak of the book and, once again, your dictionary.

Homework:

Coursebook: page 27 (vocabulary) / Pages 28 and 29 (Grammar Focus)

Extra: Paper 1 and Paper 3 (Part 1 on both tests) – Handout
