CAE – Where there’s a will…

Hi there dear students,

We’ve barely started the unit, but I thought I’d share a nice video with you which illustrates this saying. What do you think of it? We’ve seen lots of examples of people who are capable of accomplishing extraordinary things despite their limitations. Now, it was the first I’ve seen a dog set such an example of determination. It’s certainly some food for thought, isn’t it? And to think that there are lots of people who are constantly whining about their situation instead of realizing there are lots of things that they could do. Maybe we could learn a bit from Faith and be happy with the way we are.

Don’t forget to share your thoughts!!!

Cheers,

Rick

Hello students,

In your first lesson, you learned some useful expressions to use during your English course. Remember, the more English you use, the easier it is for you to learn it. Here is a list with the phrases you should know and use. Can you remember all of them?

a. May I drink some water?
b. May I go to the restroom?
c. How do you spell __________ ?
d. I’m sorry. I don’t understand it.
e. Can you repeat that, please?
f. What does __________ mean?
g. I’m sorry I’m late. May I come in?
h. Please, could you speak slower?
i. May I speak Portuguese?
j. Can I borrow your __________ ?
k. Could you lend me your __________ ?

As you can see, there is a lot to lean. Make sure you can remember and use all of them.

I hope you enjoy the semester.

Cheers,

Rick

Senior 4 – Module 6 – In the Money

Well, the topic of this module is MONEY. So, what’s best to start us off than a Pink Floyd hit called MONEY? Have you ever seen it? How many references to money can you see in the embedded video? What did you think of the lyrics? Does it have a positive view of money or a negative view in your opinion? Comment and let others know what you think.

And here’s the lyrics:

Pink Floyd – Money Lyrics

Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay and your O.K.
Money it’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I’ll buy me a football team
Money get back
I’m all right Jack keep your hands off my stack.
Money it’s a hit
Don’t give me that do goody good bullshit
I’m in the hi-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet
Money it’s a crime
Share it fairly but don’t take a slice of my pie
Money so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a rise it’s no surprise that they’re
giving none away

“HuHuh! I was in the right!”
“Yes, absolutely in the right!”
“I certainly was in the right!”
“You was definitely in the right. That geezer was cruising for a bruising!”
“Yeah!”
“Why does anyone do anything?”
“I don’t know, I was really drunk at the time!”
“I was just telling him, he couldn’t get into number 2. He was asking
why he wasn’t coming up on freely, after I was yelling and
screaming and telling him why he wasn’t coming up on freely.
It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out”

Welcome!

Dear students,

Welcome to your teacher’s blog. This is an area in which I’ll try to keep some information on what was seen in class and maybe one or two pieces of extra information. I hope you find this an ueful asset and make use of it throughout the semester. Apart from this blog, a wikispace is also in mind. Make sure you check the blog regularly.

To navigate and go straight to your class, use the CATEGORIES menu on the top left. If you do that, you won’t have to go through all posts for all classes and try to find yours.

I hope we can learn a lot this semester and have loads of fun!

Cheers,

Rick
